A story I heard was that, in the late sixties, everyone from Neil Young, to Paul McCartney, to the Monkees would come to Frank and Gail Zappa's house to party. He was against any drug use, except cigarettes and coffee - a view other musicians around him didn't share. He has more copywrites registered in the Library of Congress than any other composer, and many more recordings which haven't been heard than have. Musicians who have seriously attempted his work know better.įrank was a workaholic who composed and recorded up to 16 hours a day for nearly 40 years. Critics and fans alike often failed to recognize the genius of Zappa as a serious composer of very complex melodies and rhythms. Like his music, Frank Zappa's life was complex, full of humor and tragedy. A look in the mind of a great composer of the 20th cen.
